Vivid Sydney 2023 continues to light up the Sydney skyline and cityscape.
Maree’s monumental, awe-inspiring video projection, Barerarerungar, on the MCA’s façade is an exploration, celebration and reverence of Barerarerungar (meaning ‘Country’ in the Boonwurrung language of the Kulin Nation). The installation draws from Maree’s three decades of reclaiming and resurfacing south-east First Nations art and cultural practices, including evocations of the artist’s river reed necklaces, symbols of safe travels and friendship that aptly overlook Sydney Harbour.
