JANET FIELDHOUSE COMMISSION UNVEILED AT NGA

13.10.2023

Janet Fieldhouse’s Sister Charm commission as part of the National Gallery x Art Makers series has officially been installed and unveiled in the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden, Canberra.

Inspired by her matrilineal connections to the Torres Strait Islander communities, Fieldhouse is known for her usually intricate and small-scale sculptures which depict the elasticity in nature. This large-scale work is Janet’s most ambitious work to date.

‘My family, my Torres Strait Islander heritage and my culture are my inspiration and are integral to my art. Art and my practice is important to me because it gives me a sense of belonging in my family, my heritage and my culture.’ – Janet Fieldhouse
