JANET FIELDHOUSE’S MATERIAL CULTURE EXHIBITION AT CAIRNS ART GALLERY

Opening today, Janet’s new body of ceramic work showcases the Kala Lagaw Ya/Meriam Mer artist’s experimentation and innovation in abstract forms.  Simple in form yet powerful in presence, the series is imbued with reflections on culture.

The new works in this exhibition further explore the subject of Zenadth Kes/Torres Strait Islander cultural charms used traditionally for personal, ceremonial and/or religious purposes.

Janet’s ceramic practice reflects not only her culture, women’s stories and experiences, but also her artistic vision and innovation.
