VALE MRS. K. BUTLER

15.04.2025

We are so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. K. Butler, who has come to mean so much to us at the gallery.

We remember fondly her first trip to Melbourne to receive her $2O,OOO award for the Inaugural Wyndham Art Prize in 2O15, and her visits to the gallery for her solo and collaborative exhibitions, with her friend and peer the late Nyarapayi Giles.

We are so honoured to have had the opportunity to not only know her, but share her exceptional, unique vision with the world.

We recognise that visitors to the gallery with from all backgrounds are drawn to Mrs. Butler’s paintings. Her sense of colour and her bold mark making is unifying. It is wonderful that she was recognised by the Western Australian Government as a Cultural Treasure in her lifetime.

We send  our heartfelt condolences to her family and close friends and to everyone at Tjarlirli and Kaltukatjara Art centres.
