NAIDOC WEEK KEEP THE FIRE BURNING! BLAK, LOUD AND PROUD

06.07.2024

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud‘.

The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of First Peoples cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced.  It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“Blak, Loud and Proud” encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of First Peoples identity, empowering strength through heritage and asserting a First Nations place in the modern world.  The theme calls for a reclamation of narratives, an amplification of voices, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

This year is of particular significance, as National NAIDOC Week 2O24 marks the 5Oth anniversary of the first National NAIDOC Committee comprising all First Nations members in 1974, ensuring that self-determination and the strength of community underpinned NAIDOC.

Over the next week, join us in taking the call to action and keep the fire burning by learning and taking meaningful action.
