MAREE CLARKE’S YAWA (LONG JOURNEY) COMMUNITY WORKSHOP AT BERNINNEIT

15.02.2025

Maree was recently announced as the artist for the Berninneit Public Art Commission.  Her vision for the commission centred around a five metre long Murrini glass canoe, formed from glass sections that would be created through public workshops in Berninneit, with the local community having the opportunity to contribute to crafting and arranging the glass sections.

Over the weekend of 31.O1.2O25 — O2.O2.2O25, hundreds of community members from the Bass Coast Shire were welcomed into the experience of collaborating in the making of the canoe.  Working in small groups, participants arranged patterns of coloured glass into panels that will ultimately form the body of the canoe.

The completed artwork is due to be installed and unveiled to the public in June of this year.
