Teresa Baker — Minyma Malilunya — Exhibition Essay

Teresa Baker works with the Tjungu Palya Art Centre in Nyapari Community, South Australia. Teresa is known for her dynamic compositions, developing a distinctly unique way of painting the epic travails of Malilu, the artist’s heroine ancestor.

This, Teresa’s third solo exhibition since 2015 with Vivien Anderson Gallery recognises the artist’s significance as senior painter and educator across the APY lands. Teresa has achieved international recognition through her participation in exhibitions in the USA from 2010 through to 2014 in association with our gallery in Melbourne and the Chiaroscuro Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and more recently travelling to Switzerland and France for events associated with the opening of the Fondation Opale, and Houston USA this year to represent APY land artists at the prestigious Menil Foundation for Your Map is not Needed, sponsored by Fondation Opale and significant arts patron, Berengere Primat.
