CLARE JAQUE VASQUEZ — BONE DRY

15.07.2026—
15.08.2026

Following her remarkably successful year in 2O25, which included the sell-out of her inaugural Melbourne solo exhibition, Skyland, and the recipient of the prestigious Ellen José Art Prize, Jaque Vasquez’s latest body of work arrives with immense anticipation.

In Bone Dry, Jaque Vasquez reflects on the Millennium Drought and its lasting impact on Country, community and memory. Drawing on personal experience and the knowledge passed through generations of Gomeroi/Kamilaroi women, the exhibition explores collective grief, environmental change, and the enduring resilience and beauty of Country.

My work is a delicate, slow practice. It evokes a sense of fragility and vulnerability against the unwavering resilience of my Country”

I remember my grandmother telling me about the cycles of floods and the big dry, but this drought was different this time. The drought opened up cracks in the skin of Gomeroi earth that were huge, you had to be careful when walking not to fall in.”
